Despite their elimination in the group stage of Africa’s
oldest football competition, the Somali flag carriers have made a history after
accumulating five points from four group stage matches they played. This was
the first time in Somalia’s football history that the Ocean Stars gathered five
points from the senior football event.
Meanwhile, the Council for East and Central Africa
football Associations [CECAFA] has been cheered by the high profile performance
of the Ocean Stars. "Somalia have made a stunning performance during the
challenge cup. The most entertaining and competitive match in the whole
tournament was that of Somalia against Eritrea” said CECAFA technical manager,
Albert Okech, who added that Somalia have made a tangible football improvement.
