Somali young shoulders carry the nation's flag in Moscow

Somalia's flag has been taken before an international audience in Moscow, Russia ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup kick off.


Somalia has never been to a FIFA World Cup and is not even one of this year’s FIFA World Cup participants, but the nation’s Sky blue flag with the white star in the middle has been seen being waved in a big gathering in Moscow.


Three Somali teenagers Abdirahman Mohamud Jama, Abdullahi Ali Hassan and Zakaria Ahmed Mohamed are in Moscow carrying the nation’s flag on their shoulders, as they participate in the Football for Friendship event in Moscow.



The boys, sent by Somali Football Federation, have joined more than 1500 other teenagers from around the world, who are enjoying in this year’s Football for Friendship event in Moscow, Russia.


The teenagers were part of the Ocean Stars youngsters who wrote a history during the recent CECAFA U-17 tournament in Burundi when they showed the world that Somalia have the talent to play in the final of an international football event. This was for the first time in history that Somalia reached such state in a football competition.
